Office Automation: Three User Experiences

Article Abstract:

The type of computer needed by a company varies with the specific functions and tasks that must be carried out. A real estate tax lawyer used the CPT 8100 word processing system in his practice. The increased efficiency and reduction of paperwork allowed the lawyer to concentrate more heavily upon legal matters. Similarly, Webtor Electronics Inc. increased its productivity by acquiring Microdata's Reality 6000 mini-computer system. The computer is able to handle order entry, inventory control, order processing, billing, and financial control. Computers can lower the costs of doing business and increase the rate of communication.

An Office Born of Controversy

Article Abstract:

As part of a legal settlement, the newly-created Valero Energy Corporation was forced to move and chose to build in Houston. The second of its two tower buildings has won an Award of Merit from Office Administration and Automation's 1982 competition. The flexible open plan incorporates workstations whose measurements are in multiples of four-feet. The records administration center handles the records retention system and the microfilming of records. The printing and duplicating center handles all printing except the annual report. The corporate library accesses 250 data bases.
