At the 1983 Hanover Fair, the world's largest industrial exhibition, 436 products received the 'Good Industrial Design' award. This award serves as a stimulus for superior design. Among the criteria for earning the award are functioning, safety features, durability, ease and convenience of operation, and high-quality design. Nixdorf Computer AG, West Germany, is researching all areas of the workstation including the video screen presentation, keyboard design, and desk layout.

Previously, office automation has provided its greatest benefits to clerical-secretarial personnel. Now, managers and professionals will find personal computers helpful in supporting their executive thinking and decision-making process. Recognizing this new market, equipment manufacturers are designing 'user-friendly' computers and software packages. Soon the personal computer will be used on a regular basis.
