Slim notebook computers perform like desktop models

Article Abstract:

Hitachi Ltd. has introduced new models of the slim notebook computers, the Flora 200 series that include three versions of the Flora 270V and the smaller-than-notebook model, the Flora 210. The Flora 270V, which features an MMX 200MHz Pentium processor, offers 32MB standard memory and a 2.1GB hard disc as well as a 2MB video RAM that boosts image processing capability. The Flora 210 incorporates a 12.1-inch thin-film transistor color LCD, a battery, a 24x-speed CD-ROM drive, and a 100Base, rapid LAN interface.

32x-speed CD-ROM drive serves personal computers

Article Abstract:

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. and Matsushita-Kotobuki Electronics Industries, Ltd. has released the LK-RC832TZ 32x-speed internal CD-ROM drive capable of transferring data at 4.8MB per second. The device, available for 22,800 yen ($180), utilizes a constant angular velocity (CAV) system to be able to reach that transfer speed. The LK-RC832TZ, which can be used with CD, CD-ROM, recordable CDs (CD-Rs) and rewritable CDs (CD-RWs), also offers 65ms access time at the outer circumference.

NEC: Mighty processors power compact mobile computers

Article Abstract:

NEC Corp. has introduced its new Mobile Gear II MC-R500 portable computer. This new computer combines a 16MB memory with a 33.6Kbps fax modem. Its monitor is an 8.1-inch color super-twisted nematic LCD. The MC-R500 has images with 640x240 dots and 256 colors. It features the Pocket Internet Explorer software and the Multiple-Purpose Internet Mail Extension.
