Speaking Practically: OA Shows Are Missing the Mark

Article Abstract:

Dorothy Sandburg gives suggestions for improving the quality of computer shows which she feels are losing their appeal to big customers. The shows should emphasize what is current and applicable, such as the trend to decentralization. Exhibitors should provide relevant information, instruction, and documentation and be able to demonstrate that their products can be integrated into the real business world. Their staff should be knowledgeable, able and willing to answer questions. All areas of OA should be included in the shows and accompanying seminars.

Speaking Practically: The Joy in Designing a New OA System

Article Abstract:

After approval for an automated office system has been granted, the next step is the design which should follow a series of procedures. Design may involve a set of integrated systems for a department or a single system such as word processing for a company. The office procedures and work flow must be analyzed and the requirements for input, output, hardware and vendor support determined. This information is presented in the Request for Proposal.
