Systems in Action

Article Abstract:

The Ace Hardware Corp.'s micrographics documentation and interactive invoice-processing system combines an IBM 8100 distributive processing system, an IBM mainframe, and three Kodak IMT-150 microimage terminals. The micrographics file stores an estimated fifty billion customer invoices. The 'hidden advantage' of complete microfilm records was proved when Ace Hardware recaptured more than $1.3 million in a 1983 antitrust settlement because they could substantiate their purchases from microfilm.
