The Government Office: Britain Overhauls Communications

Article Abstract:

By overhauling its internal communications and imposing regulations requiring standards for all equipment, the British government believes it can save $22.5 million while boosting its office automation industry through orders totaling seventy-five million dollars. Pilot projects will test sophisticated integrated voice and data networks. A schedule for implementing standardization has been formulated starting with computer interfacing in 1984, local area networks for 1985, and proceding to digital access of workstations to PBXs for 1988.
