Thin Client vs Cheap PC

Article Abstract:

Industry analysts have yet to agree if Thin Clients are better than Cheap PCs or vice-versa due to the scarcity of service costs for both categories. Thin Clients are workstations without hard drives but rely on powerful servers while Cheap PCs are sold for less than $1,000. For IDC senior analyst Doug Chandler, Thin Clients may be cheaper to maintain than Cheap PCs because the former's network-based architecture is familiar to IT professionals. However, Aberdeen Group analyst Bob Sakakeeny, says lack of interest from vendors such as Sun Microsystems and IBM, will ultimately put Thin Clients into oblivion.
