Toward A More Secure Office Building

Article Abstract:

A discussion of an integrated security system (ISS) is provided. 'Basically, an ISS is a mini-computer-driven communications network that is dedicated to monitoring a large number of dispersed sensors and data collection devices.' These sensors and devices are connected with the ISS CPU. A human operator monitors the ISS by means of a VDT console, an intercom system, and various display panels. An ISS deals with fire detection and suppression, control of building access, movement within the building, and supervision of the building's light, heat, air conditioning, and ventilation systems. Photographs of two ISSs are shown.
