Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd. intends to create a joint venture firm to make and sell plasma display panels (PDPs) and other related products and components in Shanghai, China. The company is Shanghai Matsushita Plasma Display Company Ltd. (SMPD), and with Matsushita, the other companies involved are Shanghai Vacuum Electron Devices Company Ltd., Shanghai Industrial Investment (Group) Company Ltd., and Shanghai General Electronics (Group) Company Ltd.
