Taiwan moves into position to overtake Japan as leading notebook computer maker

Article Abstract:

Taiwan is poised to topple Japan to become the No. 1 notebook computer producer in the world, as predicted by Taiwan's Market Intelligence Center of the Institute for Information Industry. In the first six months of 1998, Taiwan's notebook computer production totaled 2,539,000 units, up 27.1% compared with the first six months of 1997. For 1998, Taiwan's notebook computer production is predicted to exceed 5.8 million units, up 32.1% from the year-ago production.

Portable modular printers handle barcodes, integrate with various systems

Article Abstract:

Nippon Primex Inc showed its latest line of portable printers that are capable of being linked to different operating systems at CeBIT '99 in Hannover, Germany. The items featured include the NP-220 and NP-520 portable printers that can be utilized as credit authorization terminals or applied in point-of-sale systems. Other items at the exhibit include the NP-213, NP-323 and NP-413 modular printers, the NP-800 Series card printer and the NPT-301 paper presenter.
