Innovations abound in today's outboards

Article Abstract:

Marine engine manufacturers have developed a new breed of outboard engines that feature new innovations, such as direct injection. They say that the direct-injection technology has enhanced the performance, fuel economy and emissions of their new outboard engines. But more importantly, they were able to build these outboards with only a 10% to 15% increase in consumer prices.

Bombardier ships its first new outboards; company meets its deadline, says it's pleased with number of orders already received

Article Abstract:

Outboard Marine Corp. of Sturtevant, Wisconsin, has become absorbed successfully by Bombardier Recreational Products and has ambitious plans for future production. By late 2001 or early 2002 its 350 employees could be increased to 1,000 at the state-of-the-art facility. Bombardier is getting to know the 4,000 dealers that handled the marine products in the past.

Yamaha launches HPDI outboards

Article Abstract:

The Yamaha Marine Group has launched its revolutionary High Pressure Direct Injection outboards at an annual dealer meeting in St Petersburg, FL. The new technology will be offered in 150- and 200-hp ratings which will include bass and offshore shaft lengths and counter-rotating versions for dual installations. The technology will use 700 psi for greater atomization of fuel charge while reducing exhaust emissions by 75%, thereby, meeting the 2006 low-emission guidelines of the US Environmental Protection Agency.
