Bucknall Group back from the brink

Article Abstract:

Bucknall Group is a quantity surveyors' practice that was floated on the Stock Exchange in 1988. During the early 1990s, the group was expected to fold, with 1993 losses totalling 1.3 million pounds sterling. However, chief executive David Bucknall has seen the company's fortunes revive and it now employs over 700 people. The establishment of a facilities management arm and the launch of an Asian operation are expected to boost company profits further. Bucknall's 1995/96 turnover amounted to 10 million pounds sterling.

The reform is being lead by treasury chief executive Adrian Montague who is planning to raise up to 100 million pounds sterling to fund building work at the headquarters of the treasury. The scheme has been criticised by banking officials who claim the PFI system works perfectly well.
