Candle debuts performance software

Article Abstract:

Candle Corp of Santa Monica, CA, intends to launch its first line of electronic commerce software in Apr 1999. The products, eBA ServiceMonitor and eBA ServiceNetwork, are designed to make on-line stores respond more quickly to customers. Specifically, the technology will warn Web site operators if their response is so slow for customers to switch to another retailer. ServiceMonitor keeps track of customers' movement through a site and how long they stay on each page.

Bigwords.com, an online textbook marketer based in San Francisco, CA, relies on an aggressive marketing effort to attract college students to its virtual store for their books. For instance, the company purchased 15 tons of orange super balls and place 10,000 of them off a cherry picker onto the varsity tennis court at the University of California at Berkeley. Students who could find the five blue balls get a free semester's worth of textbooks.

Microsoft joins e-commerce market

Microsoft Corp is beta testing a new line of electronic-commerce services and technology. Company chairman and CEO Bill Gates said pilot versions are expected to come out in summer 1999. The new products include the BizTalkServer, an Extensible Markup Language-written application designed to help companies integrate separate applications. With the new products, the software giant hopes to bring 1 million new businesses online.
