Land's End pampers itself with product line

Direct marketer Land's End Inc of Dodgeville, WI, has introduced its redesigned and expanded Coming Home specialty bed and bath products catalog. The new products in its new Coming Home Early Spring 2000 catalog fall under the spa accessories category, which includes items such as aromatherapy candles and soaps, massaging bath brushes and body lotions. The company has recently launched a strategy to reduce catalog circulation and product offerings to focus on updating its entire product line.

Stonewall Kitchen jam-packed with ideas

Stonewall Kitchen of York, ME, is expanding its catalog product line that will include hard goods, a larger trim size as well as a bigger mailing. The company has a mailing circulation of 200,000, made up of 130,000 holiday catalogs and 70,000 autumn books. Stonewall will send 75% of the catalogs to prospective buyers while the rest would be allocated to its house file and segmented 'best buyer' file. Co-founder Jonathan King said that the bigger mailing is aimed at increasing its customer base.

Catalog companies are expected to develop major promotions during the holiday season in a bid to establish a major niche in the potential $8 billion online market for 1999. The projection is 142% higher than the 1998 level of $3.3 billion. One company that has taken advantage of the expected higher holiday sales is LL Bean, which is attracting customers with its free shipping offer through Jan 1, 2000. Other consumer catalogs with similar offers are Fingerhut Corp and Lillian Vernon Corp.
