Consultants warn that the cost of rebuilding could far outstrip early estimates

Experts claim that the Irish Republican Army bomb which exploded at Bishopsgate in London, UK on Apr 24, 1993 has caused in between 500 million pounds sterling and 700 million pounds sterling worth of damage. They claim that over 155 buildings have been damaged and that 5 buildings will have to be abolished which include the Hongkong Shanghai Bank tower, St Ethelburga Church and a row of Victorian shops at Wormwood Street. Many buildings may not show structural damage until several months.

Landfill Directive will cost everyone

Article Abstract:

The proposed European Commmunity Landfill Directive will have serious financial implications for operators of landfill facilities and for their suppliers. These include the operator's full responsibility for damage to the environment, inspection, monitoring and control of the sites and preparation of environmental impact studies of proposed sites. Changes in the Environmental portection Act will be necessary if the current draft of the Directive is adopted.

Whole-life cost model

Article Abstract:

The British government is planning to invest 450 million pounds sterling in the year 2001 on private finance initiative (PFI) school projects. Between 1998 and 2002 the government expected to invest 1.6 billion pounds sterling on new and refurbished schools. Stoke-on-Trent has applied to upgrade its 122 schools, of which 12 are expected to be demolished and rebuilt, with the remainder refurbished.
