Clients are generally end-users with only a minimal amount of experience of the construction industry. They are seeking experienced teams which can fit out offices to very firm quality, cost and time requirements. A Category A fit-out, which usually includes all finishes, raised floors, suspended ceilings and the extension of mechanical and electrical services into office areas, generally adds between 270 pounds sterling and 370 pounds sterling per mt sq to the total construction costs.

Architects working for the local authorities in Nottingham, England, have found the introduction of lottery funding has helped to initiate many new projects in the city. Some of the architects working in the design and property department have found working flexible hours as beneficial and they are able to take time off in lieu when they work overtime. They acknowledge some of the procedures are rather bureaucratic but many of the projects are exciting and innovative. Wages are paid according to a set structure therefore exceptional work is not directly rewarded.
