Dutch construction in bloom

Article Abstract:

The Dutch construction market is one of the most rapidly expanding in Europe, with output predicted to rise by 4.2% in 1995. Architects have seen a strong rise in demand for design and production drawings, and additional work is also coming from government plans to improve river defences. There are many projects already on site, and it is likely that there will soon be labour and materials shortages.

'Shallow recession' warning

Article Abstract:

Orders won by contractors in the three months to the end of Jan 1995 were down by 11% from the previous three months, and total construction industry output could rise by only 1%, or even remain static, in 1995. The industry may enter a shallow recession unless new orders improve. There is now only limited confidence in the level of construction work for the second half of 1995.
