Engine makers gearing up to comply with CARB ruling

Article Abstract:

Marine engine manufacturers have doubled their efforts to meet production schedules and at the same time, reevaluate technology, costs and distribution channels to meet the tough environmental standards imposed by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The industry has set an amount of $500 million for Environmental Protection Agency regulations that require a 75% reduction in emissions from 1998 to 2025. CARB standards for hydrocarbon emissions, on the other hand, will take effect on January 1, 2001.

Article Abstract:

Boat dealers who are turning to the Internet as a marketing tool are facing several problems including territorial rights and territorial protection for dealers. Marine Retailers Assn of America Pres Phil Keeter feels that Internet marketing has been reduced to price issues without regards as to its impact on the future of the industry. Other factors that Internet new-boat sellers should take into consideration are confusing issues such as manufacturer's control and dealer services.

Commission tackles delicate task of improving federal lake facilities

Article Abstract:

The National Recreation Lakes Study Commission has already held two meetings on how to improve recreational opportunities at federal lakes. This the commission has to do without crossing paths with environmental, hydropower, agricultural and other interests. The commission expects to release its report by Feb 1999, which would delve on management and licensing agreements, increasing the role of the marine industry and other private-sector interests.
