Federal IT market heats up for business-to-government DMers

Article Abstract:

CDW is among the numerous business-to-government (BTG) direct marketers taking advantage of the growing federal information technology market. Since late 1993, procurement regulations have changed, giving direct marketers the chance to enter on the under $2,500 low-end sale as open market vendors. The open market purchasing by federal employees has reportedly surged at a 30% clip for each of the past three years. Computer software has been the top seller on the government Visa card since the beginning, with office supplies being in the fourth rank. DMers are anticipating a pending legislation that will raise the micropurchase level of government employee credit-cards from $2,500 to $10,000.
