HUD responds to MHI on defect regs

Article Abstract:

The Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has issued a commentary in response to a request submitted by the Manufacturing Housing Institute with regards to policies on manufactured houses that have structural defects. In its report, HUD stated that any defect should be determined by a manufacturer based on the information in his possession only and that no outside information shall be considered valid. It asserted that manufacturers should be contacted to determine if notification is necessary and not confirm the presence of defects in the homes.

Lender foresees moderate industry growth

Article Abstract:

Manufactured housing has registered an annual growth rate of 18.7% since 1992. The CIT Group, a leading industry lender, predicts that the demand for manufactured homes shall continue to rise until 1998. The 1976 HUD Code set quality and durability standards and a subsequent revision regulated energy efficiency and ventilation measures. The 50-to-60 age group will demand more factory built homes which usually require smaller mortgage payments, property taxes and overall low maintenance.
