N2K to sell made in Japan music for yen

Article Abstract:

N2K Japan intends to start marketing Japan-made CDs online by midsummer and will accept payment in yen by August 1998. The venture marks the first of a strategic alliance with Japan's leading music retailer, Shinseido. The alliance, which was concluded at the end of 1997, will add 175,000 new local language music titles to the company's online inventory. N2K staffers in Tokyo are projecting sales to increase by 60% monthly as a result of the venture. The new payment arrangement, meanwhile, will allow customers to immediately know the real cost of a CD upon ordering rather than waiting for their credit card statement.

The Swedish Post is set to start delivering mail order packages to urban area homes in the early evening hours effective July 1, 1998. The service will become a standard feature of its operations. The delivery will be attempted in the evening and if the recipient is unavailable, the postman will leave a message to call the post office and arrange another time for delivery. The move is one of post's strategies to keep up with growing competition. Sweden Post continues to promote itself by advertising in newspapers, television and using direct mail.
