Pets.com of San Francisco, CA, has opened a call center in Greenwood, IN, which will also serve as the company's distribution center. The facility will be manned by 30 to 50 agents who will primarily handle majority of the company's customer service operations. The call center was built in the Midwest region because acceptable wage in this area is comparatively lower, thus allowing Pets.com to reduce operating costs.

The facility in McAllen, TX, has 430 seats while the one in Youngstown, OH, has more than 280 seats and 225 Web-enabled PCs. The Atlanta, GA, center, on the other hand, has an 18- station lab designed to test new technology and pilot porgrams for deployment throughout the company's contact centers.
