Pleasing customers is hard work, not ideology

Article Abstract:

Experts in the building industry share their views on the need for total quality management (TQM). They believe that TQM entails dedication, cooperation and education throughout the company's hierarchy. Companies need to define their quality goals and gear their operations towards achieving these. They must encourage and motivate their employees about the importance of quality and ensure that they follow quality control measures. They should also conduct market research to determine consumers' preferences so that they can produce the right products of good quality at affordable prices.

Article Abstract:

The National Housing Quality (NHQ) Award aims to recognize builders who create and manage efficient production systems aimed at providing their clients with superior quality and value. It was patterned after the US Commerce Dept's Malcolm Baldrige Awards including its criteria and point system. However, the NHQ Award added product quality as another crucial criterion to assess the final home products using working drawings and photographs. Professional Builder and Remodeler and the National Assn of Home Builders Research Center created the award.
