M\S Database Marketing announced that it has been chosen as an IBM Business Partner. The partnership will expand M\S's coverage to IBM's e- business technologies worth $500 million. The technologies are Web self- service, e-commerce, e-collaboration and business integration. M\S CEO Robert McKin also announced that they have been acquired by Jordan Industries Inc, a diversified management/investment holding company.

Salon.com uses direct response to lure hits

Article Abstract:

Salon.com has announced that it will sponsor 13 episodes of the nationally televised "Burt Wolf: Travels and Tradition" produced by Rainbow Media Holdings Inc of Bethpage, NY. The deal will allow Salon.com's sales unit to sell advertising space around the show and develop sponsorship packages for advertisers on its online properties. Rainbow Media acquired a 10% stake in Salon.com in Dec 1999.

Bill seeks disclosure of Web site data uses

Article Abstract:

Reps Chris Cannon and Anna Eshoo have sponsored a legislation that would provide privacy protection for Internet users. The House legislation would require Web sites to notify visitors how personal data, such as telephone numbers and ZIP codes, are used and would allow visitors to limit its use. The bill is similar to the legislation intoduced by Sens John McCain and John Kerry in 2000.
