Skin care

Article Abstract:

Head of architectural conservation at English Heritage John Fidler believes that a lot of the UK's old buildings have been ruined through incorrect cleaning methods. Poor specification and cost-cutting occurred in the boom period of the 80s. In London cleaning has removed the fire skin leaving the porous material exposed to water penetration and frost damage. In Scotland cleaning cannot be undertaken without a planning permit. UK heritage bodies have already spent 200,000 pounds sterling annually on stone cleaning research. There are 3 methods: water, mechanical and abrasive or chemical.

Holiday jobs

Article Abstract:

Holiday Club Pontin's, which runs 17 holiday centres across the UK, is in the third year of an 80 million pounds sterling project for the refurbishment and modernization of its eight Family Centres. It contracts out 3 million pounds sterling of large-scale maintenance each year, and is also likely to refurbish its other centres. Its projects are let by competitive tender on its bespoke contract. It does not favour partnering, but likes to have a long-term relationship with contractors.
