The big comeback

Article Abstract:

Retail firm Marks & Spencer has invested 86 million pounds sterling in its new flagship store in Manchester city centre, with the aim of rebuilding confidence in the area which was destroyed by a bomb blast in June 1998. The new store has been specially designed to be one of the most modern in Europe, making use of natural light and spacious floor space. All those involved in the project have worked speedily and quickly to get the store ready for Christmas 1999.

Clay for today: the traditional clay cladding tile has been redesigned as a sophisticated, modern, interlocking cladding system

Article Abstract:

The traditional clay cladding tile has been redesigned and reconstituted as an engineered cladding system for use in a variety of applications such as high rise housing and recladding projects. The new LockClad tiles are cast with fully interlocking hooked nibs to resist uplift from winds or vandals. The clay tiles are said to give high rise buildings a 'warmth', unlike panel-based and wet-render systems
