The change makers

Article Abstract:

The Docklands development in London, England, was one of the most significant urban development schemes in the world, according to former UK Secretary of State for the Environment Michael Heseltine. He believes that the then government was correct to regenerate Docklands by helping to drive up land values. It was vital to emphasize the positive aspects of the Docklands area, according to first London Docklands Development Corp Chief Executive Reg Ward. The present government is seeking to ensure that the momentum in Docklands is maintained, according to Urban Regeneration Minister Richard Caborn.

Treasury bid reaches muddle finale

Article Abstract:

There is continued confusion over the selection of a developer to undertake the 200 million pounds sterling redevelopment of the headquarters building of the Treasury in London, England. Lawyers for the Treasury are currently considering whether it will be possible to evaluate bids from both Stuart Lipton and Godfrey Bradman, as financial details of the latter bid were submitted after the official deadline. It is believed that the Lipton bid will offer a very high quality development, while the Bradman bid will be less expensive.

Bankside Tate hits trouble

Article Abstract:

It seems increasingly unlikely that the conversion of Bankside Power Station in London, England, into the Tate Gallery for Modern Art will be completed by the original deadline of Jul 1999. Delays have arisen because of technical difficulties being experienced by steelwork contractor Rowen's erection partner J and J. Peter Rogers, director of Stanhope, which is managing the Bankside project, believes that time could be made up by beginning concrete work early.
