A history of the manufactured housing industry is presented, highlighting the advances made by the industry with its marketing and professionalization efforts and the effect of the establishment of real-estate investment trusts in jumpstarting the growth of the industry. The industry is in the process of updating several of its important promotional and educational documents, such as the Manufactured Home Community Management and Mobilehome Park Management books.

How the REITs rate in operating expenses

Article Abstract:

The operating expense ratios (OER) of five real estate investment trusts (REITs) are analyzed from Jan. to June 1995. Results show that the average OER of the five REITs is 77.16%, meaning that for every dollar of income, over 77 cents go to pay corporate or property-level operating expenses. Sun Communities had the lowest OER at 67.8%.
