The living daylights

Article Abstract:

The 43.3 million pounds sterling National Botanic Garden of Wales in Carmarthenshire, Wales, incorporates a large conservatory building which has been designed by Architects Foster and Partners. The major contractor for the glass dome was Cowlin Construction. The glass conservatory measures 95m by 55m and cost 8.9 million pounds sterling. It is planned the building will house some 10,000 Mediterranean plants. The inside of the glass building has been landscaped by Gustafson Porter. The Botanic garden comprises of 230 ha of land and is due to be opened during Easter 2000.

Article Abstract:

The new Brindleyplace commercial development in Birmingham, England, includes a cafe-bar enclosed within a glass casket. The sculptural building was designed by architect CZWG and is operated by Cafe Rouge. Sculptural effects are created by butterfly roof canopies and an elliptical form, with the glass supported by narrow, tubular steel ribs.
