USA Networks, other big businesses turn to print vendor site ImageX.com

Article Abstract:

ImageX.com is an online market match maker for the offline printing industry. The firm wants to address the problem of work inconsistency among small printing shops. ImageX said it intends to end this problem through technology and by standardizing a digital file format. The firm builds intranet sites for its customers. Each customer is given its own site which are given custom-printed goods such as the letterhead, logos and marketing materials. Customers can buy through and make specifications through ImageX's Web site.

Blair to consolidate three catalogs

Blair Corp is planning to consolidate the most successful product categories and items from its three home-product specialty catalogs into its Blair Shoppe catalog. Blair will phase out mproved Living, today's Kitchen and Blair Shoppe Gift Gallery by yearend 2001. Consolidating the most popular categories into a primary catalog is expected to further increase profitability by eliminating costs associated with inventory management and production of three separate catalogs.

Sharper Image in new international strategy

San Francisco, CA-based Sharper Image Corp's new global strategy will be to sell its own design products through foreign wholesalers. However, the cataloger will continue its former strategy of selling products through its franchisees. Its main thrust is to penetrate major department stores in London, UK, and has already taken actions toward this goal. These include a recent agreement with a UK distributor and ongoing negotiations with Harrods and Selfridges Ltd.
