Urban design must rescue South Bank, says Duffy

Article Abstract:

The Thames-side South Bank Centre in London, UK is to be architecturally revitalized by the appointment of a masterplanner in March 1999. Three different schemes have been chosen by the South Bank Centre's chairman Elliot Bernard, which will be assessed for viability by the new masterplanner. The role of the masterplanner has been devised by architect Frank Duffy, who claims the main aim of the project is to help smooth the flow of people through the new centre by opening up unused spaces.
