When staff come with the contract

Article Abstract:

The UK Transfer of Undertakings Regulations 1981 and European rules make it binding that companies who employ council workers must offer the same employment terms as they enjoyed previously. This could make some contracts non-profitable. The Unfair Contract Terms Directive will apply to all contracts made after Dec 31, 1993. The European Federation of Construction Executives has been founded by construction secretaries. Its headquarters is in Paris, France. The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 1992 came into effect on Jan 1, 1993. There is a 2-year transitional period.

Dangerous heights

Article Abstract:

Various prosecutions over the years should serve to warn directors of companies that they can be personally fined if their firms commit an offence under health and safety law. Directors can be prosecuted under the Health and Saefty at Work Act 1974 as employees of a company if the company committed an offence and they ignored it or gave their consent for the action. For those in the construction industry, a violation of the new Construction (Design and Management) regulations 1994 will constitute grounds for a health and safety prosecution.
