Where are tomorrow's leaders?

Article Abstract:

One of the most serious problems facing the UK construction industry is the apparent lack of people to replace the industry's current leading figures. Some observers feel that the construction industry is a long way behind other sectors in identifying and training its next set of leaders. It is possible that the cyclical nature of contracting has been a key cause of this short-termist approach. It is clear that construction companies must now give future managers the direct construction experience they will require, along with financial and leadership abilities.

Meet the mystery shopper

Article Abstract:

Property developer Andrew Goodall does not believe that there are any real benefits to be derived from chasing volumes. He aims to become the most profitable housebuilder in the UK. He is looking at three public and two private companies as acquisition targets, and plans to divide any company he buys into its constituent parts. He would probably sell off any social housing operations, as he regards their lower margins as being closer to contracting.
