Abta fails holidaymakers

Article Abstract:

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has criticized the trade association Abta for not carrying out its obligations, following a complaint from a holidaymaker. Abta has to support consumers in fighting for a refund if one of its members fail to provide the holiday paid for, but Abta cancelled one holiday company's membership for failing to provide annual accounts and subsequently refused to help a couple who had booked a holiday with the company.

The European Union Directive on Unfair Commercial Practices, that is likely to come in the year 2007, should outlaw some of the problems with holiday clubs, especially aggressive trading.
