Answering machines

British Telecommunication PLC's answering service, BT Call Minder, provides a better service for less money than a number of answering machines, says the Consumers' Association. The answer machine can be purchased with or without a telephone. A survey of 14 answering machines concluded that the Betacom Memo, priced 60 pounds sterling, is the best model with no telephone. The Audioline TAM 921, priced 90 pounds sterling, is the best built-in model. BT Call Minder costs five pounds sterling for each three-month period.

A number of kitchen scales are reviewed by the Consumers' Association, including mechanical, traditional and electronic varieties. The survey concluded that accuracy and prices vary enormously. Jonelle's Electronic scales, priced 33 pounds sterling, are very good in terms of accuracy and flexibility of measurement. The St Michael Traditional scales are also good value at forty pounds sterling. The Salter Premier 077 mechanical scales, priced eight pounds sterling, are considered a worthwhile good value-for money.
