The digital difference

Article Abstract:

Digital photocopiers are more expensive than analogue photocopiers, but prices are falling. Digital machines are not as noisy as analogue machines, and are less prone to break down, but replacement parts are more expensive than for analogue machines. A digital machine scans an image just once, stores the image in the memory and makes copies, whilst an analogue machine scans an image as many times as copies required. Digital machines also have various other features, but the user may not need them all.

Feature finder

Article Abstract:

The choice of features plays a part in selecting a photocopier. Special features might include reduction and zoom features, margin shift, and image overlay. There are also two different kinds of feeds, RDH (recirculating document handlers), which make two-sided copies, and RADF (recirculating automatic document feeders). RDH can damage originals and cause paper jams, but have the capacity to do the job more quickly. Other features include sorters and staplers, automatic duplexers, and colour copying.
