Car sounds

Article Abstract:

Car radio-cassette players are the main target for theft, but some have good security systems. Radio Data System (RDS) sets tune for the best reception anywhere in the UK, providing access to local traffic information. Travel announcements (TAs) can automatically come in when tapes are playing if an RDS set is used. RDS sets also retune to the best frequencies on a journey for pre-set stations. RDS EON (Enhanced Other Networks) can retune to any localTA station in range.

Up close and personal

Article Abstract:

The Aiwa AM-F40, which costs 180 pounds sterling from Allders, came out tops in an evaluation of five mini-disc recorders. The Sharp MD-MT20H, which costs the same, is also recommended. Aiwa personal CD and cassette players also ranked among the best buys in their categories. The Panasonic SL-S208S CD player offers quality at a sensible price. A total of forty personal stereo players were evaluated for the survey.

The personal touch

Article Abstract:

Personal stereos with radio and personal CD players were tested for loudness and sound leakage. Few CD players work efficiently when the user is moving about. Headphones supplied with personal stereos are not very good, so it is better to buy them separately. CD players give much better sound quality than cassette players.
