Cordless phones: digital cordless phones look good but are they worth the money? We've assessed a wide range of cordless phones to find out

Article Abstract:

Modern cordless phones have less interference and battery life has improved. An evaluation of cordless phones looks at conventional cordless phones and new digital models, priced between 50 pounds sterling and 230 pounds sterling. It looks at the features offered and performance of each phone. Best buys were the basic Answercall Apollo a 50 pounds sterling, the Betacom Roma at 60 pounds sterling, the Binatone Airlink 8 at 60 pounds sterling and the BT Freestyle 80 at 80 pounds sterling. The two digital models did not perform significantly better than the best buy conventional models.

A good value cordless phone to buy is the Hagenuk Homehandy Clou which costs 130 pounds sterling. The Hagenuk offers a basic range of features, has 10 memories and is easy to use. However, the instructions were not particularly clearly written. BT Diverse 1010, at 160 pounds, offers a paging facility plus a ringer in the base. The instructions are well written and it has 10 memories. The sound quality is inferior to the Hagenuk. Analogue phones were not recommended.
