Crash test update

Article Abstract:

Australia's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) measures the impact that small and four-wheel drive cars can withstand in severe front collisions. These kinds of accidents add up to 60% of crashes that result in serious or fatal injury. The tests involve a full-frontal crash at 56 km/h and an offset crash in which 40% of the driver's front end rams into a barrier with a crashable aluminum face. The 1996 Mitsubishi Mirage small car and the 1997 Toyota RAV4 four-wheel drive fared the best in frontal crashes.

Some cars can cost up to one-third of their original price to repair in minor accidents. Various cars are crash tested at low-speeds to determine how expensive the repairs will be. The Honda Civic cost just $2076 to repair, the Toyota Starlet cost under $4000, and the Toyota Camry cost $3044. Many other car models are discussed.
