Features & performance

Article Abstract:

Colour copiers are slower than their mono counterparts but are faster than colour printers. Most digital machines will produce between five and seven colour copies per minute, against 20 and 30 per minute by mono copiers. Most colour copiers have two paper trays, one for A4 and one for A3, with some having adjustable trays. They all have a number of basic editing features, such as zoom, while some have more advanced features, such as colour balance and colour conversion. The main editing features available on most colour copiers are presented, plus other points to consider connected with paper handling, output quality and speed.

Colour copier technologies

Article Abstract:

There are around 27 colour copiers available on the UK market, most of which use traditional xerographic techniques. Xerographic copiers are either digital or analogue, but analogue machines are becoming obsolete because they cannot be connected to a computer network. Some colour copiers use bubblejet technology, while one machine, Fuji's Pictrostat 300, uses a technology that is a cross between photography and thermal transfer.

Colour copier basics

Article Abstract:

The UK market for colour copiers is small, with under 5,000 units sold in 1993 and the number in 1994 expected to be lower. The market will grow in the long term, but it is currently very small, mainly because there are few colour copiers around and because they are very expensive, ranging from around 15,000 pounds sterling upwards. Colour copiers are competing with the less expensive computer colour printers.
