Personal telephone numbers offer advantages but costs are high. Personal numbers, as offered by BT and Redstone Network Services Ltd., are attached to the person or business rather than the location. This means that, even if an individual is abroad or out of an office, or if a business or individual relocates, they can still be reached on the same number. However, connection charges are high and some services charge the personal number holder for diversion charges to mobile phones and international numbers. Callers also pay an extra charge.

The user is charged for the service and for each call. Telecommunications service company BT charges 0.17 pounds sterling per minute for local, short national and long national telephone calls.
