Electronic messaging (E-mail) systems are used in business and private for fast communications. Much of them work via the Internet worldwide communications network. However, the business community is relatively unfamiliar with online communications technology. E-mail technology has some technical problems and users express concern over security. Junk mail is troublesome and many businesses are still not linked up to the Internet.

CeBIT 2000, which was held in Hanover, attracted around 700,000 visitors. The exhibition showcases a variety of new technology and this years offerings included the Panasonic DX-2000 network fax, the Mitac MiNote 7020, and the Antec Attache portable colour scanner.
