Insurance problems

Article Abstract:

Insurance policies for buildings, contents, cars and holidays may provide overlapping cover. Advice is given on how to claim if the insured has double cover. Policy buyers should regularly check the amount of cover they need. An all-risks extension to a house contents policy covers belongings stolen from a car or when away from home. Holiday insurance only provides second-hand replacement cover. Buying house contents and buildings insurance from the same company ensures cover as different firms have different rules.

Tour operator holiday insurance

Article Abstract:

Tour operators sell travel insurance but holiday-makers can obtain alternative insurance. The cover provided may suit the traveller better. It is important to check the small print as exclusion clauses may limit cover. Minimum levels of cover for medical expenses, cancellation, personal liability and baggage loss are given. Tour operators are reluctant to supply full details of policies but the Association of British Insurers requires them to do so. Documentary evidence is needed for claims.

Cover your treks

Article Abstract:

Travel insurance does not need to be bought from the travel agent arranging your trip, and the discounts sometimes offered to tempt holidaymakers into buying an agent's insurance do not always deliver a better deal. It is worth checking whether you are already covered under a credit, charge or gold card, as these provide automatic insurance if the holiday is paid on them. House contents insurance also sometimes covers your belongings away from home.
