Article Abstract:

Three new family cars which can seat five adults are the Audi 80, the Mazda 626 and the Toyota Carina E. Buyers should expect to obtain a discount. None of these had handbooks with sufficient facts on child restraints. The previous recommendation, the Nissan Primera, remains the best in this category. These cars were tested for driving, comfort and space, and maintenance, safety and security.

There are several really good large family cars available. The BMW 3-series is quiet and offers a smooth ride. The Citroen Xantia is spacious at the back. The Ford Mondeo is resistant to thieves. The Honda Accord is easy to drive. The Mitsubishi Galant offers good handling and steering. The Nissan Primera is pleasant to drive. The Rover 600 and the Toyota Carina E are secure cars.

The Nissan Micra is the best supermini available used or brand new. It is reliable, but is not very secure and does not offer a good ride. The best small family car is the Rover 200, which has good secondary safety. The best large family cars are the Nissan Primera and the Toyota Carine E, which has more luggage and passenger space.
