Microwave ovens

Article Abstract:

A compact microwave oven is useful for occasional use or in a restricted space, while a full-size model can supplement a conventional oven and be used for larger meals. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food's (MAFF) new labelling scheme for microwave ovens is intended to all users to cook and reheat microwaveable food more accurately than has been the case until now, but has not yet been widely publicised. Users must take particular care when using a microwave oven for reheating in order to avoid the risk of food poisoning, and must always follow cooking times correctly.

Microwave ovens

Article Abstract:

When buying a microwave oven the space it occupies should be considered. Cluttered control panels are awkward for people with weak hands and poor colour contrast on the controls is a problem for people with restricted vision. Some microwave ovens still cannot reheat food consistently. New features are microwave oven grills, which are much slower than grills, and a 1,000 watt power level. This saves a minute when re-heating foods with a high liquid content. This and other extras are often not required.

Microwave ovens - the facts on safety

Article Abstract:

Microwave ovens are invaluable for saving time and money particularly when defrosting or reheating food. In a test of 18 microwave ovens it was generally found that setting controls manually resulted in more evenly heated food. It was also found that many ovens did not heat food satisfactorily even when food manufacturers instructions were followed. Information on microwave ovens giving details of prices, vendors and specifications is included.
