Almost 300k endowmnet policies valued at 5.7 bil pounds sterling were surrendered early in the UK in 1995. Endownment policies are surrendered because of mortgage change or because the policy owner needs cash. However, in most cases money is lost and it is probably better to opt for a loan against the policy or to sell the policy. A loan is particularly useful if the property suffers from negative equity.
