Once bitten...

Article Abstract:

The best insect repellent is diethyltoluamide (DEET) but it can damage fabric and it has also caused allergic reactions in a few people. However, this danger is minimal compared to the risk of getting a serious illness such as malaria. Lemon eucalyptus and citronella are natural repellents but citronella can irritate the skin. Candles with citronella do not deter mosquitoes very well. Different products contain different levels of deet and high concentrations are required in some countries. Children need a lower concentration. A rating list of products is given.
