Push to clarify cash-machine charges

Article Abstract:

More than one in four people still do not realize that they would be charged for taking cash out at convenience machines located in shops, pubs and petrol stations. Hence a new labeling scheme is proposed on all cash-machines to address the problem where the a large red sticker would be put on machines that charge, stating the fee, and a green sticker on those that do not, stating they are free.

The truth about advertising

Article Abstract:

The advertisers are breaking the rules, set by the government on the advertising criteria, with the help of Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), by airing misleading concepts on the products. The ASA's job is to make sure that adverts comply with the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) but it is not able to do so and hence the government has expanded the remit for ASA.

Protecting patients: Can the General Medical Council work in the patient's interest?

Article Abstract:

The General Medical Council (GMC), funded wholly by doctors, is supposed to regulate doctors and protect patients. After the crimes committed by Dr Harold Shipman and Dr Clifford Ayling, and the Bristol Royal Infirmary pediatric heart surgery scandal the GMC has made efforts to tighten its control of profession.
