South African reds

Article Abstract:

South African wine is now extremely popular in the UK. However, red wine from South Africa is generally disappointing, according to the results of a recent tasting. Indeed, it would be better to purchase a red wine from Chile, Australia or the south of France. Of South African red wines tasted, the best were Tesco Beyers Truter Pinotage, Stellenbosch, Long Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1995, Western Cape, Sainsbury's South African Cabernet/Merlot Reserve Selection 1995, Stellenbosch and Cape View Cinsault/Shiraz 1996.
