Bonds and gilts are safe savings instruments that offer fixed returns on investments always protecting one form interest rate drops and these can be purchased from stockbrokers or via unit trusts. Gilts are bonds issued by the government to fund spending whereas bonds can be either government bonds or private bonds and both instruments offer safe returns but investment must be considered keeping in mind a medium-term or long-term perspective.
